News Paper Series Patterns
In working with 1930's patterns almost daily for months, I've found that it's almost predictable that everything was done on such a small scale. One of the contributing factors to the old newspaper patterns was that they only had a certain amount of space to publish each week and were restricted to the size (as attested by all of the many ads jammed against their sides). There were often inaccurate, with some blocks measuring as they should and others either much smaller or larger. In addition, they have weathered time in various degrees of deterioration - where necessary, damaged or inaccurate areas have been retyped or redrawn. These patterns have all been rechecked and adjusted for the correct measurement.
Each Newspaper pattern will come with an information sheet with tips and suggestions on working with patterns published in Newspapers.
Some images may be marked as to prevent the rising rate of pattern theft. The markings will not effect the use of the pattern for personal use. It only prevents copying for resale.

Magic Vine Applique Pattern Nancy Page $18.00

"Magic Vine"

From the Nancy Page quilt club is a photo copy of her 1930’s Magic Vine Appliqued quilt pattern. Finished measurements are 90x108; it could be made larger by enlarging the background blocks, borders or the leaf border around the outside (included in instructions).

All of the blocks were copied directly from the original patterns that were clipped from the farm newspapers and were part of a dear friends grandmother’s collection. Mouse chewed, these were almost not retrieved, so I redrew the blocks to assure accuracy. I also rewrote instructions, added a layout sheet with measurements, and several color photos of quilts either finished or in progress. This has 4 bouquet vines, with 2 vine repeats and a leaf vine all around the outside.

Nancy Page Laurel Wreath Newspaper Applique Quilt Pattern
1930's Laurel Wreath Applique Pattern $12.00

From Nancy Page is a photocopy of her 1930’s Laurel Wreath appliquéd quilt pattern. Finished measurements are 90 x 105” – wonderful for a full or queen size bed. All of the blocks were copied directly from the original pattern that were clipped from the newspapers and were part of Sharon’s grandmothers collection.

New instructions have been added for today’s methods of quilt-making. This has 25 central wreath motifs, each with a flower or bird, a “pillow sham” top pattern and a leaf border.

Vintage French Bouquet quilt pattern
French Bouquet Nancy Page 1930's $14.95

"French Bouquet"

From the Nancy Page Quilt Club is a copy of her 1930s French Bouquet Quilt.  Finished measurements were not given, but it looks to finish by about 80x80.  It could be made larger by enlarging the background blocks or adding a border around the outside flowers.

All the blocks were copied directly from the original patterns that were clipped from the actual newspapers and were part of Sharon’s grandmother’s collection.  The patterns are, however, easy to understand and complete.

This has 12 bouquet blocks, each with a leaf and bow at the base, included are 15 blocks for the floral border.  I increased the patterns to 120%, as many have smaller pieces.

"Flower Garden"

From 1930 is a photocopy of a vintage quilt pattern from McKim Studios “The Flower Garden” quilt. There are 25 flowers that you can embroider or appliqué ( or some of both) and a quilting pattern.

Not included is the original pieced fence rail border, But it could easily be duplicated from the photos as it is simple pieced pattern.

Vintage Fruit Basket 1930's Quilt pattern
Fruit Basket 1930's Ruby McKim $12.00
"The Fruit Basket"

From the 1930's is a photocopy of a Ruby McKim quit pattern - "The Fruit Basket."

The finished size isn't given but it appears to be full bed size. All 35 pages of the (32 basket patterns total) were copied directly from the original patterns that were clipped from the actual newspapers and were a part of Sharon's grandmother's collection, so due to age, some are a bit grainy. The patterns are, however, easy to understand and complete. Each basket is explained on the cover - included are basket piecing instructions and quilting patterns.

Vintage Flower Show Applique Quilt pattern 1930's
The Flower Show Applique Quilt pattern 1930's $12.00
"Flower Show"

From the 1930’s is a photocopy of a vintage quilt pattern, The Flower Show Quilt. There were 8 flowers to embroider or appliqué (or use some of both) in the old tissue patterns I inherited, so I designed 4 more for a total of 12:

·Iris ·Daffodil ·Violets ·Poppy ·Pansy ·Calla Lily ·Amaryllis ·Irish Bells ·Morning Glory ·Petunia ·Roses ·Dahlia ·Orchids
These could easily be reduced for embroidery only (redwork would be great). The flowers are set on a 14” Block that is made up of 2 triangles with the flowers in the top side. They can be set at an angle or on point.

There is a beautiful swirling feather design for the plain blocks. Complete instructions are included.

"State Flowers"

From a 1930’s newspaper series is a photocopy of the quilt pattern, “State Flowers”, to be worked in appliqué and embroidery, or embroidery alone (this would be wonderful in Redwork). These are designs to fit a10” square block, but could easily be enlarged with a copy machine if you would like them larger than the originals. Each flower has the state name and name of the flower in the block.

When McKim Studios designed this, there were only 48 states; this set includes additions for Alaska and Hawaii (admitted in 1959) and those states who’s official flower has since changed. Included are instructions and a state flower list. All of the b locks were copied directly from the original patterns that were clipped from the actual newspapers and were a part of my friends Grandmothers collection or are my designs to add the new states.
